Naukri vs TimesJobs

When I saw the TimesJobs ads, even I could not believe that they were playing some "sleight of numbers" trying to take on Naukri.

For more details, take a look at Rashmi's and Content Sutra's posts.

So I sent off an email to Sanjeev Bikhchandani asking for his take on TimesJobs' claims. This is what he replied:

We disagree with the Economic TImes article and the advertisements released by Timesjobs :
1. As per Alexa and Comscore naukri remains by far the leading jobsite in India. On Alexa the three month reach of naukri at 855 on April 15 is more than thrice that of Timesjobs which is at 257. According to Comscore, Naukri got more than 2.3 million unique users in February as compared to slightly more than 1.3 million of Timesjobs.
2. In fact as per Alexa, Timesjobs has slipped to fourth place behind Clickjobs.
3. The statistic that Timesjobs is referring to is "Active" resumes in the last six months. Here Timesjobs has a different definition of "Active" as compared to naukri. In Timesjobs if you open a job alert email and click on a job in the email to go to the site you are treated as an active user. In naukri you are an active user only if you update your CV or apply for a job or are a new registrant. We do not count clicking on a job in a job alert as being "Active". If we did have the same criteria our active resume count would be far higher.
4. Finally, Timesjobs is encouraging people to register more than once on their site. The email from Timesjobs to a job seeker given below is self explanatory (the bold and highlighting in the email is ours).

Wow! The online classified job market is really hotting up in India.

What is needed now is a disruptor to disrupt the prevailing business model !

  1. I think one can gauge the maturity of a market by this - when competitors start taking potshots at each other, as opposed to a nascent/emerging one where the feeling is one of enough space for everyone...

Or - is it that all the companies are only looking at the same audience and not other possibilities? (for e.g. are they looking at opportunities offline as well ? Or would that be stretching too much?)

  3. HI

I have been following similar trends and another service is being offered by careerbuilder.com. This has come out with India specific website careerbuilderindia.com. Although most of the services are similar but one more service that they are offering is "recommendations for you". You post your cv and fill their form and they give you recommendations as to where all you can explore possibilities.

I think this is a great service. Although much needs to improved on this as I strongly believe that Hiring should be based on Talent and Competencies and not on what you have done or studied. It should be on what you can do or are capable of.

[Jaspreet] Why Not ? Its just timesjob has taken services of tribaldb, an online markeeter. So if you upload your CV, you would get a confirmation mail from timesjobs alongwith your newly created username and password for timesjob. So how can one still say this campaign is not at the behest of timesjob.

What is of more importance is that one needs to define what an active resume / user means. Would a user become active, only if he has logged onto the site and either modified his profile / applied to a job as Naukri counts an active resume to be OR if the user clicks on any of the links in the email which have been sent by a site as timejobs does.

  5. Hi All,

Whatever be the case, but the amazing scene to watch is that at least no. 4 company came out with solid strategy and in fact shook the niggest giant... named NAUKRI.COM...

Even the senior management has to use research companies to proce themselves that they are still the no. 1...

I think the motive of TIMESJOBS.COM is proved herewith.

Also, whatever be the thing either people uploaded resumes twice or thrice bottomline is they were on high then naukri.com.. now whether Mr Sanjeev Bickchandani accept it or not...

But sorry boss you were defeated and so cooly accept it.

And hats off to times marketing strategy.

  6. [Jaspreet] I have not tired submitting my resume with an email. Here is why not -
    1. My email provider declared it as spam.
    2. The email qualifies partially to Cyber-Phishing
    a. From email is not on timejobs.com official domain
    b. You are redirect to a different page
    c. You are not touching the original website in the whole process.

May be tribaldb should review how they run online marketing campaigns.

In real terms I think Naukri's process of counting active users is correct. Timejobs.com should declare their results according to Naukri's algorithm to be truly declared as a winner (that too; after remove resumes collected from this email).

    [Gaurav]
We are talking in real terms who is the number one Naukri or TimeJobs.

If you really want to defeat your competitor play with his rules and then defeat him or do better then what he is doing. According to me what TimeJobs did is cheep.

If you believe in everything is fair in love and war, then you can say TimesJobs is the winner.

I have one suggestion for TimesJobs - start saving each resume as “PersonName_Java, PersonName_J2ee, PersonName_2YearsJava….” within a month you will be worlds number 1 jobsite. :)

  7. TribalddB Spamming for TimesJobs

It is not the TimesJobs, their agency is doing the spam job, corporate like B&Coleman, should take action for such a stuff. To the worst they run a email portal.
