TCS to hire graduates

Moving away from the "Engineers only" syndrome TCS claims it's going for a disruptive innovation by hiring science graduates and to train them on software development for a period of 7 months (as opposed to the 3 month training that engineers get). News is that it has hired some 500 such graduates for starters.

"Five hundred science graduates are currently undergoing the pilot programme at TCS's Chennai facilities. TCS plans to scale up and make offers to 2,000 science graduates during this academic year," the company's chief executive officer S Ramadorai told a news conference in New Delhi.
I think it's not just innovation but desperation for talent that is forcing TCS to take this path. What next? Arts and Commerce students? TCS, infy, wipr et al opening colleges to feed their demand for people?

  1. Wipro did this way back in the late 90's. The program was titled WASE and was actually quite successful.

  3. I have a community for the B.Sc/B.C.A students at orkut.

From what i hear i think it is a 2year bond @ TCS unlike WIPRO which is a 4year bond.

    Drawback in WIPRO-WASE:
No experience certificate for 4years of work
The MS degree is a distance education.

  4. You can find the whole bunch of graduates who are with TCS in this orkut community.

My opinion Tcs-ignite is much better than wipro-wase. As wipro will not give a experience certificate for the 4years of bonded labour.

  5. WASE PROGRAM

Well after going thru these blogs, i personally contacted the wipro software trainee manager..
and this is what he said:

    1. The candidate will be getting a testimonial certificate stating all the detail she has been during the MS program

    2. The MS Degree is a University-Industry Collaboration course, where the candidates will working on live projects as well as studying. The classes will conducted in the weekends by the BITS educator’s in the Wipro premises & it’s not a correspondence course.
Please go through the links http://careers.wipro.com/wase or http://www.bits-pilani.ac.in/dlp-home/degrees/collab/collab.html for more detail.

  8. TCS is Great comparing to wipro
coz in wipro no Experience certificate for that four years and that too 4 years bond is too much

This is my experience in Ignite.
The Thing is allocating in projects:

The project managers in Tcs in most of the project are not willing to take the graduates in their project teams. so the ignitions are forced to work in client's B.P.O(they are telling it as K.P.O only not an B.P.O)

Most of them are in production support not in development. The tragedy is if an Ignition is benched it is very hard to find projects for ignitions in bench.
