I'm considering buying a laptop for my startup HR, OD and Blogging consulting venture.
Any suggestions? Techies and laptop gurus from India, I'm really interested to hear your opinion.
I am also exploring some sponsorship scheme by a PC maker or other firm (yeah yeah, I know, the idea is totally borrowed from Jeremy!).
So here's my offer, if you sponsor my laptop you get coverage on this blog, get mentioned on my speaking assignments and in stories in the media.
You'll also get post ads, once every 10 posts.
Any takers ?
Geez, I'm a shill...already !

Buy a Lenovo Thinkpad T Series (T60/T42). The thinkpad series of laptops are rugged, though they might be slightly heavier than their counterparts at similar price ranges. Try Sony Vaio Notebooks (if price isn't too much of a consideration). Preferably avoid HP.
ReplyDeletePersonally I have been using a IBM Thinkpad R51 series for the last 1.5 years and haven't had any issues with it. But, the R series is slightly heavier and hence I would recommend the T series, even though it would cost something like 10-15K more than the R series.
You can also consider Toshiba/Compaq satellite laptops if price is of utmost importance.
Acer has good series of laptops with 15.4" crystal bright screens, wi fi and the like with both AMD and Intel (inc. dual core) chips for Rs. 40 to 50 K. Good stuff, but can be bulky.
ReplyDeleteI have personally been using IBM (now Lenovo) for the past 3 years and recommend Lenovo. Some high end models come with ThinkVantage technologies including Thinklight (useful while travelling) and good backup softwares.
ReplyDeleteI recommend that you pick a laptop with 3 years warranty as the spares of laptops are generally expensive if bought separately.
Offcourse Lenovo support is good, which is very important.
All the best.
Hahaha. nice try but I think that it's very hard to find a sponsor especially nowadays that many corporate sponsors are very wary of their deals. Personally, I'd recommend a Mac unit, Macs are very reliable.
ReplyDeletedont think you'll get a sponsor babes..unless you know someone :))
ReplyDeleteon a serious note, if moneys are an issue, can get you a good deal on an acer.
or if you want, can orgainise a vaio at 5 % discount- thats max possible. vaio is light but you may want a RAM upgrade ( currently 512 ) but is also expensive - 70 k upwards.
am not a thinkpad fan. they are bulky and yuk looking :)
and yes if you take me up on my offer, what do i get in return ??
Hey,good idea in trying to hunt for a sponsor. May be u might want to approach them directly. Good luck !
